Fallow Deer (Boys Grave)

There were 8 of them grazing on the grass. How beautiful are the Fallow Deer. In the evening we set off, Tim Fetter and me, looking for a late night for a change. We saw 2 Redstarts, Tree Pipit, about 4 Woodcocks, 4 Tawny Owl juveniles, Nightjars and Bats.

Mother Shipton Moth (Wild Lydney)

I don't normally show pictures of moths, but I did with this one. It's a daytime moth, which is alright for me, because it doesn't need me to move things and see the darker side of life.

Large Red Damselfly (Moseley Green)

It is amazing, how wonderful this time of year. Dragonfly time, and there is more to come.

Feral/domestic Mallard strain Duck (Lydney boating lake)

I don't think I've ever seen this bird, so I will leave it up to you to decide what it is. It's size is a little bit smaller then a Mallard Duck. It has a white bib as well. Maybe I'll look into the dictionary later on the same night. At last, thanks to Dave Dunford who told me what it is.

Dandelion

It wasn't nice out and about the countryside, mostly cloudy. It's not for taking pictures. But I managed this one.

Sunday 24 May 2009

? (Nagshead, Forest of Dean)

I'm not sure what the name of this, maybe it's a beetle or something. It was found climbing a wood stack. It could live there! It looks like its habitat.

Assassin Fly?

I am not sure if this is the Assassin Fly, but I couldn't get it from all my books. If it is, it goes and catches other flies and sometimes also carried out in flight and then sucked dry. Nasty!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday 22 May 2009

Stock Dove

This morning was dismal, so I discounted it. The afternoon there was a little bit better, and, according to the weather people, it will be super weekend. It will be the best for a long while! Do you believe them?

Growing pains

It was still raining, but not as much. I was under a tree waiting for the rain to stop, when I saw this mushroom, growing on top of waste soil. It seems to be happy.

Wednesday 20 May 2009

Jay (Cannop Ponds)

I had to photograph this one, even if there is only two days since I last took this one. Gibber, gibber. That's the way I am.

Tuesday 19 May 2009

Pochard

Lightning and thunder came in the afternoon, which was after wet and dismal morning. As you can think, it's just one from the past!

Monday 18 May 2009

Jay (Cannop Ponds)

It was raining, but I caught this in a short spell. The rain, oh the rain. It never stopped. Every thing I took was a washout!!!!!!

Sunday 17 May 2009

House Sparrow (Cannop Ponds)

I think that is the House Sparrow, but I am confused. Wrong coloured beak, and head. Maybe it is young?

Thursday 14 May 2009

Tufted Duck (Lydney)

This was taken when it was not raining. Mixture of dry and wet, that's the sign of the weather these days.

Wednesday 13 May 2009

Ringed Teal(Slimbridge WWT)

A small duck of South American forests. And, it's been raining all day, that's why I had to throw in this picture. It is nice too.

Monday 11 May 2009

Common Lizard (New Fancy)

I went on my travels to New Fancy, (Forest of Dean) to see the Adder. But, I found the Common Lizard instead, who doesn't seem to mind that the Adder will make a dinner of our Lizard. He or she, is sitting right in the Adders spot for sunbathing.

Sunday 10 May 2009

Goosander (Slimbridge)

I am back with a few more shots of Slimbridge, this is a Goosander female, a bit too late to be here. I don't know if it is supposed to stay here so late.

Saturday 9 May 2009

Baikal Teal (Slimbridge WWT)

What a great name, Baikal, I don't know where it is, if you can call it that. Maybe it is something else. All the same, it's a stunning bird. I had never seen it there before, but it's been in their books or magazines.

Friday 8 May 2009

Speckled Wood butterfly (New Fancy View)

I stopped for an hour at New Fancy, just to see what had been happened. It was left to itself. There was the lone feeder hanging from the tree, and that was empty too. There were a small amount of people, but nothing compared to February or March. It will be reopened in October.

Thursday 7 May 2009

The Marshes at Lydney

The Green-veined White butterfly is the most enjoyable that you can see.
And the Little Egret, a bit too far away to photograph. There were 3 of them.

Wednesday 6 May 2009

Mallard Duck (female) (Cannop Ponds)

Here is the other half, not in order. The female of the species. Its a piece of cake to catch them in any mode, so that's what I was doing.

Tuesday 5 May 2009

Lesser House-fly (Lydney)

I think it is, therefore it is. Or maybe it's something else. It is a Fly. I'm sure that I am right!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, I give up.

Monday 4 May 2009

Juvenile Black-headed Gull (Lydney boating lake)

It was a murky day, nothing worth waiting for, exept the young Black-headed Gull. Still, I can certainly get on with my magazine, which we (ie: Brian Thomas and me), do produce for the disabled and elderly in the Forest of Dean.

Sunday 3 May 2009

Saturday 2 May 2009

Whitethroat (Wild Lydney)

It was about last year that I showed you this, they are beautiful birds. There are plenty around, singing there songs. Those are not the best of photographs, but I love them!
